2009 - 2010 Perpetual Motion Dance Company

Perpetual Motion Dance Company was founded by Meg Segreto and serves as the studio's resident dance company.  PMDC provides a positive outlet for talented dancers who wish to extend their dancing beyond the classroom level. PMDC is for students who are sincerely dedicated to dance and wish to commit additional time to rehearsals and performances. Members are selected each season through an audition process.

Perpetual Motion Dance Company News

Another dance season has flown by, and the Perpetual Motion Dance Company has had another busy and successful year.  When the fall session began, the company members came back to the studio with a wonderful energy.  Weekend rehearsals for our concert Dancing from the Heart started immediately, and the girls came together to host a beautiful show, which had over 300 participants from Broward and Dade County.  Dancing from the Heart was a celebration of the performing arts and raised over $25,000 for Gilda’s Club of South Florida, an organization whose mission is to provide free support for families dealing with cancer.  Some of the children from its Noogieland program were even able to dance with the Company on stage.  Senior, Junior, Apprentice, and Mini Company members experienced what it was like to share their love of dance for a special cause.  It was an emotional experience for all those involved.  MSDC staff and parents were amazed to see so many young people work together to create this concert, and the girls felt honored to be a part of the host dance studio for such a momentous occasion!

Later in the fall, PMDC traveled to Orlando for the annual Florida Dance Masters Thanksgiving Convention.  At the convention, students from around the state of Florida took master classes in a variety of subjects from acclaimed teachers.  Our company girls performed a tap piece, a jazz piece, and two modern pieces at the Royal Dance Festival, and we received a lot of positive feedback about our dancers and choreography.  When we returned from Orlando, it was time for The Nutcracker.  This was a new production and took place right in the studio.  Many of our younger students attended the performances and were able to learn about this traditional ballet, and the company girls were happy to have little fans in the audience.  Much time and planning went into the rehearsals, costuming, and sets.  It was well worth it because the audiences truly enjoyed this holiday classic!  In between our major dance events and preparing for the recital, PMDC reached out to the community by having our “Dance 4 A Cause” Halloween Party.  It raised over $2,000 in donations for Daniella’s Journey at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in memory of our former student Daniella Follecco.  Thank you to Micayla Mancuso for organizing the party and to all the parents for your generosity and help with the project.  The Company also danced for crowds at the I Care I Cure Foundation’s 5K run and at Daniella’s Journey by the Sea—a 5K run.

PMDC members have received performing arts honors throughout the year and deserve recognition for their accomplishments.  Carson DeSantis and Lauren Soto received a Superior rating in the Small Group Musical category at the Junior Thespian State Competition.  Carson will be going to Stagedoor Manor Summer Performing Arts Camp, and Lauren was accepted to the American Ballet Theater summer dance program in Austin, Texas. Carson was asked to assist with national auditions for Broadway Artist Alliance summer intensive in New York City.  Both Carson and Lauren will train there during the summer.  Micayla Mancuso was the dance captain for The Producers at American Heritage School.  She was selected for a lead role in Marat/Sade, which was awarded Best One Act Play at the State Thespian Competition.  Most recently, Micayla received a Miami Herald Silver Knight Honorable Mention scholarship.  As a member of the Cardinal Gibbons High School dance team, Maureen Thieme earned a grand national championship.

Our graduates have exciting plans for next year!  After graduating from the prestigious New World School of the Arts, Marli Kirsch will continue her love of dance at Jacksonville University, where she was offered a yearly $15,000 dance scholarship.  She hopes to pursue her love of dance by joining a company after college.  Camille Loiacono is going to Florida State University and is looking forward to continuing her dance training.  Micayla Mancuso will be attending the University of Florida to double major in dance and theatre.  Maureen Thieme, who was the salutatorian of her graduating class at Cardinal Gibbons High School, has received a scholarship to the University of Florida, where she plans to further her dance education alongside her academics.

Congratulations to all of our company girls.  We are so proud of all the work you’ve done this year!  Your dedication encourages the younger dancers to follow their dance dreams.  Have a wonderful summer, and keep on dancing!!
